The upcoming 8th annual International Colloquium on Black Males in Education (ICBME) will include the Graduate School Academy (GSA), a part of the Colloquium Academies, which will be led by UW-Madison’s LaVar Charleston.
The GSA aims to provide opportunities to undergraduate participants that extend beyond institutional and national boundaries through presentations and workshops designed to enhance their academic and professional profiles.
Charleston, the School of Education’s associate dean for diversity and inclusion, alongside faculty and staff from a variety of positions, will cover themes such as graduate school preparation, implications for future academic careers, and developing action plans for future collaborations and initiatives to enhance the graduate education experiences of Black students.
Though the GSA programs are directed towards undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty are welcome to attend. Students and faculty alike benefit from these workshops, which allow students to interact with peers and faculty and staff from various institutions, resulting in the development of a global network of contacts and the ability to examine the experiences of Black students throughout the world.
The GSA will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in Milwaukee as a part of the Pre-Colloquium events, while the Colloquium itself will be held from Nov. 6 to 8.
The ICBME is supported by the Wisconsin’s Equity and Inclusion Laboratory (Wei LAB), housed within UW-Madison’s School of Education, and Ohio State University’s Todd Anthony Bell National Resource Center on the African American Male.
