The School of Education will be hosting its annual Alumni Reception during the 2020 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting in San Francisco. This reception will be held on Sunday, April 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the W Hotel San Francisco, located at 181 3rd St.

Dance Department presents 2020 faculty concert

Lingnan-Peking-Wisconsin forum explores higher education, talents, and employment in global bay areas

On Nov. 11, faculty and graduate students from UW-Madison, Lingnan University, and Peking University, among scholars from other institutions, gathered at the Lingnan-Peking-Wisconsin Education Forum in Hong Kong to discuss higher education, talent training, and employment of global bay areas. UW-Madison's Adam Nelson, a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor with the Department of Educational Policy Studies, played a leading role in the event.

Sexe’s ‘Untitled’ performance raises funds in Tomah, Madison

Liz Sexe’s “Untitled: For the sake of progress” performance raised over $350 for Brighter Tomorrows in Sparta/Tomah, a human service agency dedicated to empowering survivors of domestic violence through the provision of safe housing, supportive counseling, and legal advocacy services. On Oct. 26, Sexe presented the work again in Madison at Gates of Heaven ​with ​all proceeds for this concert going to Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS). Sexe is an associate lecturer with the UW-Madison School of Education’s Dance Department.

UW-Madison’s Charleston leading Graduate School Academy at ICBME

The upcoming 8th annual International Colloquium on Black Males in Education (ICBME) will include the Graduate School Academy (GSA), a part of the Colloquium Academies, which will be led by UW-Madison's LaVar Charleston. The GSA aims to provide opportunities to undergraduate participants that extend beyond institutional and national boundaries through presentations and workshops designed to enhance their academic and professional profiles. Charleston is the School of Education’s associate dean for diversity and inclusion.

2019 MSAN Student Conference Oct. 23-26

More than 200 high school students and their chaperones from 19 U.S. school districts will be at the Madison Concourse Hotel Oct. 23-26 for the Minority Student Achievement Network Student Conference, an annual event aimed at developing student leaders dedicated to ending racial disparities in achievement and opportunity. Launched in 1999, MSAN is a project of the Wisconsin Center for Education Research, a part UW-Madison’s School of Education.

International Colloquium on Black Males in Education Nov. 5-8 in Milwaukee

The 2019 International Colloquium on Black Males in Education (ICBME) is being held in downtown Milwaukee Nov. 6-8, with a pre-colloquium on Nov. 5. Each year, ICBME brings together top researchers, high-impact practitioners, funders, policymakers, students, and concerned citizens to engage in conversations regarding the state of affairs for black boys and men in education. The International Colloquium on Black Males in Education is sponsored by Wisconsin's Equity & Inclusion Laboratory (Wei LAB) at UW–Madison and the Todd Anthony Bell National Resource Center on the African American Male at Ohio State University.
