The School of Education is committed to sharing resources with its students, graduates, partners, and future students, as well as with the community at large. Bolstered by the office of Professional Learning and Community Education, a team dedicated to enhancing the lives of all members of our community, we seek to make a difference beyond the classroom and campus.
Professional Learning and Community Education (PLACE)
PLACE ensures that the knowledge fostered within the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison has global impact. Using the expertise of faculty, staff, and community stakeholders, PLACE supports and develops professional and community learning programs in education, the arts and health.
Sample Outreach Efforts
View the Wisconsin Idea in action: from an office dedicated to providing students with international experiences, to organizations that collaborate with Madison organizations to drive education innovation, to libraries and health programs that serve as the bridge between the School and the community, the School of Education strives to reach all corners of the campus, the state, and the world. Below is a sample of our efforts.
Forward Madison
Through Forward Madison, the School of Education and the Madison Metropolitan School District are working together to significantly impact student achievement and narrow opportunity gaps through a multi-year effort focused on growing, inducting, and supporting new educators.
Global Engagement Office
This office supports global connectedness — a cornerstone of the School of Education. Connections to students, scholars, colleagues, and organizations around the globe drive the ways we conceptualize and seek solutions to problems that we face locally, nationally, and globally.
Morgridge Center for Public Service
The Morgridge Center for Public Service connects University of Wisconsin–Madison students, staff, and faculty to local and global communities to build partnerships and solve critical issues through service and learning.
The Network
The Network facilitates relationships among researchers, educators, leaders, and community members to collaboratively create new pathways for innovating teaching and learning practices by inspiring change and actualizing human potential.
Cooperative Children's Book Center
CCBC is a vital gathering place for books, ideas, and expertise in children's and young adult literature. It is a noncirculating examination, study, and research library for Wisconsin school and public librarians, teachers, early childhood care providers, university students, and others interested in children's and young adult literature.
Testing and Evaluation Services
Testing and Evaluation provides the UW–Madison campus and the University of Wisconsin System with services related to assessment and evaluation. Our office provides scanning services, scoring and statistical analysis of exams and evaluations, and administration of local and national standardized exams.
College Access Program (CAP)
CAP is a summer enrichment program for first-generation college students or students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. We offer this program to 9th and 10th graders to provide early exposure to opportunities in higher education.
Counseling Psychology Training Clinic
The Counseling Psychology Training Clinic is a training facility for the Counseling Psychology graduate training programs within the Department of Counseling Psychology. The clinic offers high-quality, cost-efficient and multiculturally competent psychological and mental health services to students and residents of Madison and the surrounding areas.
Adapted Fitness
Through the Kinesiology Department's Adapted Fitness program, volunteers and community members can join along with students in improving activities of daily living for individuals with disabilities, and as a result become more independent from both physical and personal assistance
Office of Child Care and Family Resources (OCCFR)
The Office of Child Care and Family Resources is the administrative home for a system of three campus child care centers and six network centers. Our centers serve over 800 children and employ over 200 early educators. Our role is to ensure excellence in the classroom for our youngest and to provide family support programming for their parents.
